This victory holds historical significance for the Hurricanes. It marks their first win in an Eastern Conference Final since June 1, 2006, when they defeated the Buffalo Sabres in Game 7 en route to winning the Stanley Cup.
Since then, it’s been a story of frustration at this stage for Carolina — swept by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, blanked again by the Boston Bruins in 2019, and most recently swept by the Florida Panthers in 2023.
