One of the most highly anticipated managerial debuts in international football ended in frustration as Carlo Ancelotti failed to secure a win in his first match in charge of Brazil. The five-time FIFA World Cup champions were held to a draw by a determined Ecuador side in a crucial 2026 World Cup qualifier.

"I’m really happy with Ancelotti here. I’ve always said that he’s the best coach I’ve worked with" said Vinícius Júnior after the match. "Obviously he hasn’t had time to show what he can do, his game plan. Everyone has to stay together, happy, because the World Cup is right around the corner and we have to be united to have an excellent finish to the qualifiers."

The result leaves Ecuador second in the CONMEBOL standings with 24 points, while Brazil sit fourth on 22 — a position that adds pressure as the qualifying campaign enters its final stretch.
