An international mountain rescue team is currently coordinating the evacuation

Former Olympic biathlete Laura Dahlmeier has sustained serious injuries after being struck by falling rocks during a high-altitude climb in Pakistan, her management confirmed via ZDF.

The accident occurred on July 28 while Dahlmeier and her climbing partner were ascending Laila Peak in alpine style. The incident took place around noon local time at an altitude of approximately 5,700 meters. Her partner immediately called for help, and a rescue mission was launched shortly afterward.

Due to the remote location and high elevation, the rescue helicopter was only able to reach the site on the morning of July 29. An international mountain rescue team is currently coordinating the evacuation, supported by experienced climbers already operating in the region.

Over the past month, Laura Dahlmeier had been mountaineering in the Karakoram Range. Notably, she recently completed a successful ascent of the imposing Great Trango Tower, which rises to 6,287 meters.

Laura Dahlmeier is widely regarded as one of the most successful athletes in biathlon history. She made her World Cup debut on March 1, 2013, in Oslo and quickly rose to prominence. Her breakthrough came in 2015 when she won her first World Championship gold as part of Germany's relay team in Kontiolahti, Finland.
