Hotspur have officially announced that club captain has signed a new long-term contract

Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced that club captain Cristian Romero has signed a new long-term contract with the North London side.

The 27-year-old Argentina international initially joined Spurs on a season-long loan from Atalanta in August 2021, before making the move permanent the following year.

Earlier this month, new manager Thomas Frank named Romero as team captain ahead of the upcoming UEFA Super Cup, recognising the defender’s leadership and consistent performances at the heart of Tottenham’s back line.

Since arriving at the club, Romero has made 126 appearances for Spurs, scoring eight goals and becoming a fan favourite thanks to his aggressive style and defensive intelligence.

On the international stage, Romero made his debut for Argentina in a FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chile in June 2021. He has since earned 44 caps and scored three goals for La Albiceleste.

Romero has enjoyed a glittering run of success with the national team, winning the Copa América in both 2021 and 2024, lifting the CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions (Finalissima), and playing a crucial role in Argentina’s triumphant 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar.
