Liverpool - Everton 2:1

Liverpool maintained their perfect start to the Premier League season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over city rivals Everton in a fiery Merseyside derby at Anfield.

The Reds came flying out of the gates and dominated the first half with intensity and precision. It took just 10 minutes for Ryan Gravenberch to score, rifling a stunning volley into the far corner after a clever assist from Mohamed Salah.

By the 29th minute, the hosts had doubled their lead. Hugo Ekitike latched onto a smart through-ball from Gravenberch and curled a precise finish into the same corner, leaving the Everton defence scrambling.

Everton pulled one back in the 58th minute when Idrissa Gueye capitalised on a rare lapse in Liverpool’s back line. His low strike slipped past Alisson Becker, who got a hand to it but couldn’t keep it out.

With the score at 2-1, tension rose inside Anfield as the visitors pushed for an equaliser. But despite late pressure, Arne Slot’s side held firm to secure all three points — and their fifth win in as many league matches.
