FIFA U20 World Cup 2025: Ukraine and Paraguay Set the Early Pace in Group B
The opening round of the FIFA U20 World Cup 2025 in Group B delivered plenty of goals, as both Ukraine U20 and Paraguay U20 picked up vital victories to kickstart their campaigns.
Ukraine, under the leadership of head coach Dmytro Mykhaylenko, edged past South Korea 2-1 in a thrilling opener. First-half strikes from Yevhen Synchuk (13') and Andriy Pishchur (16') put the Europeans in firm control. However, a late goal from Kim Myung-jun in the 80th minute ensured a nervy finish for the Ukrainian side, who held on to secure all three points.
Meanwhile, in the group's other match, Paraguay U20 stunned Panama in stoppage time, clinching a dramatic 3-2 win thanks to a 90+4 minute winner from Caballero Fleitas. Earlier goals from Maindana and Gonzalez had cancelled out strikes by Krug and Herbert in an end-to-end contest that kept fans on the edge of their seats.
The next round of fixtures will see Ukraine U20 face Panama on September 30. A win could potentially secure Ukraine's place in the knockout stages.
