Manchester United might be under heavy fire from fans and pundits alike, but the underlying numbers tell a very different story. According to the latest expected goals (xG) data, the Red Devils are actually the most creative side in the Premier League.

Yes, you read that right. Under-pressure boss Rúben Amorim—often accused of lacking tactical direction—may simply be battling poor finishing and pure bad luck. United top the league in xG with a figure of 14.06, yet they’ve managed to convert just 9 goals. That’s a staggering shortfall of more than 50%.

Trailing behind them in second place are Crystal Palace, who’ve generated an xG of 12.94. Reigning champions Manchester City complete the top three with 12.24.

Here’s how the rest of the top xG creators stack up:

  • 4) Arsenal – 12.21
  • 5) Brighton & Hove Albion – 11.36
  • 6) Chelsea – 11.19
  • 7) Liverpool – 11.06
