Premier League: Manchester United End 9-Year Drought at Anfield

Liverpool - Manchester United 1:2

Rúben Amorim finally has liftoff at Manchester United. The Portuguese manager recorded back-to-back wins for the first time in charge, and this one was historic — a 2–1 away victory over arch-rivals Liverpool at Anfield, their first at the ground since 2016.

United struck early, catching the hosts cold as Bryan Mbeumo latched onto a through ball and calmly finished past the keeper in just the opening minutes. Liverpool pushed for a response, and while chances came, they could only level late — in the 78th minute — through Cody Gakpo, who timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap and slam home from close range.

But parity didn’t last long. Just six minutes later, Bruno Fernandes delivered a pinpoint cross, and Harry Maguire — unmarked in the box — powered a header into the back of the net to restore United’s lead.

There was one final scare for the visitors, as Gakpo nearly equalised again with a header that flashed inches wide. But United held firm, securing all three points and finally ending a 9-year wait for a Premier League win at Anfield.
