Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has clarified comments he made earlier this week that many interpreted as a sign he planned to retire after the 2026 World Cup. The Portuguese legend has since explained that his words were misunderstood — and that he’s not planning to hang up his boots just yet.

“Soon for me means in 10 years... No, I'm joking. I'm really enjoying the moment right now. As you know, in football, when you reach some age, you count the months very quick. I feel very good in this moment. I score goals, I still feel quick and sharp. I'm enjoying my game in the national team. But of course, let's be honest. What I mean by soon is probably one or two years.” - Ronaldo told Reuters with a smile.

That timeline aligns with reality: the Al-Nassr forward remains under contract with the Saudi club until the summer of 2027, meaning fans can expect to see him continue on the pitch well beyond the next World Cup.
