Germany have suffered a major setback ahead of their decisive FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying matches, as midfield leader Joshua Kimmich has been sidelined with an ankle injury. The Bayern Munich star sustained a capsule injury in his right ankle during training on Tuesday and, despite traveling with the team to Luxembourg, has been ruled out of tomorrow’s game.

Kimmich addressed his fans on Instagram, posting a photo from his hospital bed and writing:
“Unfortunately, this is my workplace for now. I’ll do everything I can to be back on the pitch by Monday.”

That potential return date is significant — Germany face what could be a group-defining clash against Slovakia on Monday. Both teams are level on points, and the Slovaks hold the psychological edge after defeating Germany in the opening match of the qualifying campaign. With top spot — and a direct ticket to the World Cup — on the line, Kimmich’s absence could prove crucial.
