Amorim was appointed in November 2024

Manchester United have officially confirmed the dismissal of Ruben Amorim as head coach of the first team, bringing an abrupt end to his short spell at Old Trafford.

In a statement released by the club, Manchester United explained the reasoning behind the decision, pointing to their current position in the Premier League table.

"With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.

The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future.

Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday,” the statement read.

Amorim was appointed in November 2024, arriving from Sporting CP, where he had built an outstanding reputation after winning the Primeira Liga and establishing himself as one of the most exciting young coaches in European football.

His appointment was widely viewed as a bold and forward-looking move by Manchester United, with the club turning to a coach seen as part of the new generation of elite managers. However, inconsistent results and mounting pressure ultimately proved decisive.
