Marseille - Liverpool 0:2

Marseille suffered a damaging 0–3 home defeat to Liverpool at the Stade Velodrome, a result that leaves the French side staring at a potential early exit from the UEFA Champions League.

For much of the first half, the hosts managed to contain the Premier League giants and stay competitive. But just before the break, their resistance was broken in cruel fashion. From a free-kick on the edge of the area, Dominik Szoboszlai produced a moment of quality, cleverly drilling the ball under the jumping wall and into the net — a goal that stunned the home crowd and shifted the balance of the contest.

The situation worsened dramatically after the restart. Marseille’s hopes were dented further when goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli endured a nightmare moment, diverting the ball into his own goal under pressure. As the game opened up, Liverpool remained in complete control, dictating the tempo and exploiting the growing gaps.

The final blow arrived late on, as Cody Gakpo sealed the victory with a composed finish, underlining Liverpool’s dominance on the night and silencing the Velodrome.

To compound the misery for the Ligue 1 side, Benjamin Pavard picked up a needless yellow card and will miss the decisive away clash against Club Brugge through suspension. Despite isolated chances for Traore and Weah, Liverpool rarely looked threatened and could easily have added more goals.
