UEFA Hands Omar Artan Super Cup Appointment
UEFA has made a significant statement by appointing Somali referee Omar Artan to officiate the upcoming UEFA Super Cup.
The appointment comes shortly after Artan was denied the opportunity to participate in the FIFA World Cup, a move that sparked debate among football observers and officials. By selecting the Somali referee, UEFA appears to have offered a strong vote of confidence in his abilities on the international stage.
In an official statement, the governing body confirmed:
"The referee for the 2026 UEFA Super Cup has been appointed. We are delighted to announce that Somali referee Omar Artan will take charge of the highly anticipated clash between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Aston Villa in Salzburg."
