Werder - Hoffenheim 0:2

The crisis at Werder Bremen shows no sign of easing. A 2–0 home defeat to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga not only extended their miserable run of form but also raised fresh questions about the club’s direction as frustration boiled over at the Weserstadion.

Hoffenheim struck a crucial blow just before half-time when Alexander Prass found the net, punishing a lack of concentration in the Bremen defence. It was a composed finish and a reward for the visitors’ disciplined first-half display.

The game appeared to swing in Bremen’s favour shortly after the restart. Wouter Burger was dismissed for a reckless foul, leaving Hoffenheim with ten men and handing the hosts a golden opportunity to turn the match around.

Instead, it was the visitors who showed greater conviction. Against the run of play, Grischa Prömel doubled the lead, underlining Hoffenheim’s growing confidence and tactical maturity under Christian Ilzer. Bremen’s hopes were further dashed when Romano Schmid saw his effort ruled out for offside.

The victory marked a fourth consecutive win for Hoffenheim, who now sit within touching distance of Borussia Dortmund in the race for European places.
