Bodø/Glimt - Sporting CP 3:0

Brilliant work from Bodø/Glimt and their head coach Kjetil Knutsen. The Norwegian champions produced a superb performance to claim a fully deserved 3–0 victory over Sporting CP in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.

From the opening whistle until the final minutes, Kjetil Knutsen’s side controlled the rhythm of the match. Sporting CP looked unusually disorganised, struggling to build attacks and repeatedly failing to threaten the goal of Nikita Haikin. In truth, the Portuguese side barely created a single clear opportunity.

The game itself was highly entertaining. The ball rarely stayed in midfield for long — something that perfectly suited the attacking philosophies of both teams. Early on, the Norwegian “Vikings” played cautiously, hoping to catch Sporting CP on the counterattack. But after the first ten minutes, Bodø/Glimt seized control and began dictating the tempo.

The breakthrough came in the 29th minute. Georgios Vagiannidis committed a foul inside the penalty area, leaving the referee with little choice but to point to the spot. Sondre Fet stepped up and confidently converted the penalty, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Conceding the opener seemed to drain the confidence from Sporting CP. Just before half-time, they suffered another heavy blow. On the stroke of the interval, Ola Solbakken Blomberg struck to double Bodø/Glimt’s lead — the classic “goal before the break”, often one of the most psychologically damaging moments in football.

After the restart, Sporting CP briefly took control for around twenty minutes, pushing forward in search of a lifeline. However, the Norwegian defence remained disciplined and organised, shutting down every promising attack.

Then came the decisive moment in the 72nd minute. A lightning-fast move down the left flank saw Jens Petter Hauge deliver a dangerous low cross into the box. Waiting perfectly was Runar Høgh, who finished clinically to make it 3–0 and effectively seal the night for Bodø/Glimt.

From that point onward, Sporting CP looked completely deflated. The hosts even had a chance to make the scoreline more emphatic, but Jens Petter Hauge missed a clear opportunity in the 83rd minute.
