Deep into stoppage time of the first half, Fermín López went down inside the box under pressure from Kieran Trippier. After a VAR review, the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Lamine Yamal, who struck with precision and power to make it 3–2. It was a crushing blow — one that sent FC Barcelona into the dressing room with the lead, despite not looking convincingly superior.

To their credit, Newcastle United had found a rhythm in one of football’s most intimidating arenas. Their fast, vertical counter-attacks — often just two or three passes — repeatedly cut through Barcelona’s far-from-perfect defence.
