Julian Nagelsmann has made his final decision. Germany’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 has officially been announced — and the biggest talking point surrounds the goalkeeping department.

After weeks of speculation, Manuel Neuer has returned to the Germany national team, while Marc-André ter Stegen has been left out entirely in one of the tournament’s most controversial selection calls so far.

In another surprising twist, young Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jonas Urbig will travel with the squad as a reserve option despite not making the main roster. Remarkably, even that backup role was not handed to Ter Stegen, underlining Nagelsmann’s clear direction ahead of the tournament.

There is also significant attention on 18-year-old attacking midfielder Lennart Karl, who earned a place in the squad after impressing at youth level for Bayern. Experienced names such as Leroy Sané and Leon Goretzka have also secured their spots as Germany aim to reclaim their place among football’s elite.
