Argentina have officially announced their squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with head coach Lionel Scaloni once again placing his trust in captain Lionel Messi despite ongoing concerns surrounding the forward’s recent muscle problems.

Emiliano Martínez is expected to retain his place as Argentina’s number one goalkeeper, while Juan Musso and Gerónimo Rulli provide experienced backup options.

In defence, Scaloni has selected a blend of proven leaders and aggressive ball-playing defenders, including Cristian Romero, Lisandro Martínez, Nicolás Otamendi and Nahuel Molina. There is also a place for Leonardo Balerdi, Nicolás Tagliafico, Gonzalo Montiel and Facundo Medina.

The midfield unit features plenty of technical quality and energy, with Rodrigo De Paul, Enzo Fernández, Alexis Mac Allister and Leandro Paredes all included. Creative options such as Giovani Lo Celso, Ezequiel Palacios and highly rated youngster Valentín Barco also made the final list.

Going forward, Argentina possess an impressive mix of experience and attacking firepower. Alongside Messi are Lautaro Martínez, Julián Álvarez, Nicolás González, Thiago Almada, Giuliano Simeone and rising star Nico Paz.
