UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin and European football's governing body have reportedly lost confidence in FIFA president Gianni Infantino following a turbulent week dominated by his controversial proposal to sell a stake in the FIFA World Cup to private investors, according to The Telegraph.

The report claims that Gianni Infantino has been presented with an ultimatum: resign from his position or face an extraordinary vote of no confidence led by UEFA.

According to The Telegraph, all 55 UEFA member associations are prepared to support a motion to remove the FIFA president should he refuse to step down voluntarily. Under FIFA statutes, UEFA reportedly needs the backing of only 43 member associations to trigger such a vote.

UEFA is said to have formally declared that it had lost confidence in Infantino after the collapse of his proposed £15 billion commercial plan involving the FIFA World Cup, which was abandoned following widespread opposition from football authorities and stakeholders.

The report also states that resistance to the proposal extended beyond UEFA, with growing unrest inside FIFA itself. Citing sources within the organisation, The Telegraph claims that the internal campaign against the initiative had become so intense that some officials referred to it as an effort to "kill the monster."
