Barcelona midfielder has been officially ruled out of this weekend’s monumental La Liga clash against Real Madrid after picking up a muscular injury during Tuesday night’s 4-2 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports from Mundo Deportivo.
The 28-year-old playmaker was forced off after just 27 minutes at the Parc des Princes. Preliminary medical assessments conducted by the Catalan club’s medical staff indicate an adductor issue in his left leg. The diagnosis immediately ends any lingering hope of the Spain international featuring in Sunday’s showdown at the Camp Nou.
The 258th competitive edition of El Clásico is scheduled for Sunday, October 25, with kick-off set for 21:00 CET.
The high-stakes encounter arrives at a defining juncture in the domestic season. Hansi Flick’s side currently sit firmly in control of the title race, maintaining a flawless record of nine wins from nine matches to build a commanding six-point cushion over their fierce rivals. Another victory for the Blaugrana would inflict a devastating psychological blow on José Mourinho's chasing pack, threatening to effectively kill off any suspense in the championship race before the end of October.
