La Liga President Calls on FIFA to Scrap Club World Cup

La Liga president Javier Tebas has publicly urged FIFA president Gianni Infantino to reconsider and cancel the upcoming Club World Cup, set for 2025, citing serious concerns about the tournament’s impact on the football calendar.

"The Club World Cup is unnecessary for players, clubs, and even for FIFA itself," Tebas stated firmly. "Its only contribution is to create disorganization. President Infantino, you know that the broadcast rights haven’t been sold for the amount promised, and the sponsorship money earmarked for this tournament hasn’t materialized. You are also aware that leagues and players’ unions oppose this competition. So cancel it now, and let’s engage in proper negotiations."

Tebas emphasized that dialogue with FIFA has been ongoing for years but yielded little. "Negotiations result in agreements, while dialogue often leads nowhere. We've been in constant talks with FIFA, but the real solutions will not come from staging a Club World Cup."

The proposed expanded Club World Cup is scheduled to take place from June 15 to July 13, 2025, with 32 clubs from across the globe set to participate. However, concerns over the already-packed football calendar and its toll on players are raising significant questions about the viability and necessity of this tournament.
