Former AC Milan and Torino manager Marco Giampaolo has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Lecce.

The appointment comes in the wake of Luca Gotti’s dismissal, following Lecce’s disappointing 1-1 draw against Empoli. The club is currently battling relegation, sitting 18th in the Serie A table with just nine points.

2024-25, Italian Serie A: Standings

Giampaolo has signed a deal that runs until the end of the 2024-25 season. The contract includes an automatic extension should Lecce secure their Serie A status.

This marks Giampaolo’s return to the dugout after a two-year absence, having last managed Sampdoria in 2022. His extensive coaching career features stints at several prominent Italian clubs, including Torino, AC Milan, Empoli, Cremonese, Brescia, and Cagliari.

With Lecce struggling for form, Giampaolo faces a challenging task to steer the team clear of the relegation zone and ensure their survival in Italy’s top flight.
