Olympique Lyonnais has officially announced the departure of their head coach

Olympique Lyonnais has officially announced the departure of their head coach, Pierre Sage, marking the end of his tenure at the club. The decision comes after a mixed run of results that left the team struggling to maintain consistency in both domestic and cup competitions.

Sage took charge of Lyon in the fall of 2023, overseeing 56 matches during his time at the helm. Under his guidance, the French side secured 33 victories, played out 9 draws, and suffered 14 defeats. However, the team's recent form has been far from ideal, with only two wins in their last eight matches and an early exit from the Coupe de France. This downturn in performance ultimately sealed Sage's fate.

Rumors are now swirling that Paulo Fonseca, the former AC Milan manager, is set to take over at Groupama Stadium. The Portuguese tactician, who recently became available after leaving his post in Italy, has reportedly been in talks with Lyon's management.

Fonseca is no stranger to French football, having previously managed Lille OSC from 2022 to 2024. During his time in Ligue 1, he earned praise for his ability to develop young talent and implement an exciting brand of football.
