Roberto De Zerbi

Marseille head coach Roberto De Zerbi has made his ambitions clear: he plans to dethrone Paris Saint-Germain and put an end to their reign as the undisputed kings of French football.

“If you don’t aim for the highest goal, it can be disappointing, even humiliating. Of course, sometimes you won’t reach your goal, but that’s part of the game. If you want to be part of this club, you must be ambitious, obsessed with moving forward, and humble—while always maintaining self-respect,” De Zerbi told Goal in an exclusive interview.

The Challenge Ahead

Despite his confidence, De Zerbi acknowledges that overtaking PSG this season will be a tall order. Marseille currently trails the Parisians by 10 points in the Ligue 1 table.

“It may not happen overnight, but with our management and players like Gerónimo Rulli, Adrien Rabiot, Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Ismaël Bennacer, and Geoffrey Kondogbia, I’m not here to finish second,” he added.

Marseille’s Ambitious Project

De Zerbi’s statement reflects the bold project taking shape at Marseille, as the club aims to compete not just domestically but also on the European stage. Whether this ambitious plan materializes remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—De Zerbi has no intention of settling for second best.
