Premier League's initiative to close the summer transfer window earlier is struggling to gain support

The English Premier League's initiative to close the summer transfer window earlier (mid-August instead of the end of the month) is struggling to gain support from other top European leagues. So far, only Serie A has backed the proposal, according to league president Ezio Simonelli.

"We want the window to close before the start of the season, just like in the Premier League. However, La Liga will not close earlier than August 31, and it seems the same will happen in the Bundesliga and Ligue 1. We need unanimity for this to work, and that's not easy to achieve," Simonelli told Marca.

The Premier League argues that its proposal is more logical and practical, as it would prevent the chaos of new players joining squads after the season has already started. This disruption is inevitable when transfers continue to be finalized during the opening rounds of the league.

For now, the lack of consensus among Europe's top leagues means the transfer window debate will continue, with each league likely to stick to its own schedule.
