Gian Piero Gasperini

Atalanta are preparing to offer head coach Gian Piero Gasperini a contract extension until 2027, with an option for an additional season, as the club seeks to secure the future of one of the most successful managers in its history.

The 67-year-old tactician’s current deal expires on 30 June 2025, but according to sources in Italy, the Bergamo side is keen to open formal negotiations in the coming weeks to ensure long-term continuity at the helm.

A Historic Tenure

Gasperini has led Atalanta since 2016, transforming the club into a consistent force in Serie A and on the European stage. Under his leadership, La Dea finished third in Italy’s top flight for three consecutive seasons (2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21), and last season celebrated their first-ever Europa League triumph.

He has twice been named Serie A Coach of the Year, and is widely regarded as one of the most tactically astute and innovative managers in Europe.

Interest from Abroad, but Atalanta Hold the Edge

Reports have linked Gasperini with interest from clubs in France, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, and even domestic rivals like AS Roma. Despite this, Atalanta remain optimistic about retaining a coach whose philosophy and personality have become synonymous with the club’s identity.

Uncertain Intentions

It remains unclear how Gasperini views a potential long-term extension, given his age and the intensity of his near decade-long spell at Atalanta.
