Inter Milan Edge Past Como, but Fall Short in Scudetto Race
Inter Milan closed out their Serie A campaign with a 2-0 home win over Como, but it wasn’t enough to snatch the title from rivals Napoli, who held their nerve to lift the coveted Scudetto.
Heading into the final matchday, just a single point separated Napoli and Inter, with Antonio Conte’s men holding the advantage. While Simone Inzaghi’s side took care of business at the San Siro, goals from Stefan de Vrij and Joaquín Correa proving decisive, their fate was no longer in their own hands after a costly draw against Lazio in the previous round.
Meanwhile, Napoli secured a season-defining victory, sealing their first Serie A title since the days of Diego Maradona, leaving Inter to rue what might have been.
The match also marked the end of an era as veteran Spanish goalkeeper Pepe Reina played his final professional game — or at least he tried to. The 41-year-old was sent off late in the first half for a last-man foul on Mehdi Taremi, cutting short his swansong in dramatic fashion.
