AC Milan Sign Off with Win Over Monza, But European Fate Still Uncertain
On the final matchday of the Serie A season, AC Milan eased past already-relegated Monza with a comfortable 2-0 victory at the San Siro. Despite the win, Milan’s position in the table remains precarious, and their hopes for European football are now out of their hands.
The visitors, led by former Rossoneri legend Alessandro Nesta, had long been doomed to relegation and offered little resistance. Matteo Gabbia opened the scoring in the first half, while on-loan forward João Félix sealed the result after the break with a clinical finish.
However, the victory may not be enough. AC Milan currently sit seventh in the league — a spot that might not guarantee a place in Europe next season. If Fiorentina defeat Udinese in Sunday’s crucial clash, the Rossoneri could be pushed out of the final continental qualification spot.
This match also marked the end of the road for head coach Sérgio Conceição, whose departure was confirmed shortly after full-time. After a disappointing campaign that saw Milan drift out of title contention and crash out of European competition early, the Portuguese tactician has paid the price.
