Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo’s summer plans may hold a surprising twist, as reports emerge that the Portuguese superstar could join Monterrey — one of Mexico’s top clubs — specifically to take part in the revamped FIFA Club World Cup 2025 in the United States.

According to Marca, while the 40-year-old has not officially announced his departure from Saudi club Al Nassr, recent social media posts have hinted that his chapter there may be coming to a close.

Monterrey Leading the Chase

Marca reports that Monterrey has emerged as the frontrunner in talks, a move that would reunite Ronaldo with former Spanish international teammates Sergio Ramos and Sergio Canales, who currently play for the Mexican side.

Other potential landing spots being discussed include Brazilian giants Botafogo and several MLS clubs in the United States — an unsurprising development given the prestige of the expanded Club World Cup and its American setting.

Awaiting Ronaldo’s Decision

The 2025 Club World Cup will debut a new 32-team format, turning the tournament into a global football spectacle and making it a prime stage for Ronaldo, who remains one of the sport’s most marketable and influential figures.
