FIFA Could Hand Luis Enrique a Three-Match Ban After Club World Cup Final Incident

According to FIFA regulations, Enrique’s actions may fall under the category of violent conduct

Paris Saint-Germain head coach Luis Enrique is facing the prospect of a three-match suspension from FIFA following a heated altercation at the end of the FIFA Club World Cup Final, where his side suffered a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.

The controversy erupted after the final whistle when Enrique intervened in a clash between Gianluigi Donnarumma and Chelsea forward João Pedro. During the altercation, Enrique made physical contact with the Brazilian striker, who subsequently fell to the ground. Although Iranian referee Alireza Faghani did not issue any immediate disciplinary action on the pitch, FIFA's disciplinary code allows the governing body to review and sanction such incidents retrospectively.

According to FIFA regulations, Enrique’s actions may fall under the category of violent conduct — including a punch, kick, headbutt, elbow, bite, or spitting — which could result in a minimum three-match ban.

If found guilty, this would be a significant blow for PSG, especially as they look to regroup after a disappointing showing on the global stage. With tensions already high in the French capital following the heavy loss to the reigning Premier League champions, this latest development adds further pressure on Enrique’s leadership at the club.

FIFA is expected to open a formal investigation in the coming days, and a decision could arrive before the start of the next European club competition window.
