Officials will wear chest-mounted cameras, offering fans real-time, first-person footage during matches

FIFA has confirmed that several innovative rule and technology changes will be introduced during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, marking a significant step toward the modernization of football officiating and match-day experience.

Set to be implemented at the expanded Club World Cup in the United States, these changes aim to enhance transparency, accuracy, and fan engagement. Among the new features:

  • Referee bodycams: Officials will wear chest-mounted cameras, offering fans real-time, first-person footage during matches.
  • Live VAR visuals: VAR decisions will be displayed in real time on stadium big screens, bringing more clarity to controversial calls.
  • Enhanced offside technology: A new semi-automated offside system will combine smart-ball chips with real-time analytics for faster and more precise decisions.
  • AI-powered match data: Artificial intelligence will process in-game data live, providing deeper tactical insights through a brand-new digital platform.
  • Electronic substitutions: Teams will submit substitution requests via digital tablets instead of traditional paper slips.

The updates will be closely monitored during the tournament, which will feature 32 of the world’s best clubs and act as a testing ground for possible permanent changes in future international competitions.
