Edin Džeko

Veteran striker Edin Džeko is set to make a return to Serie A, with the Bosnian forward poised to join Fiorentina on a free transfer.

The former Manchester City, Roma and Inter Milan frontman has reached an agreement with the Viola after the expiry of his contract with Fenerbahçe, where he spent the past season as one of the club’s standout performers.

Džeko arrived in Rome on Tuesday morning to undergo a medical, before heading to Florence to finalise the deal, according to Football Italia. The 38-year-old will sign a contract worth around €2 million per season plus performance-related bonuses.

Still going strong at 38

Despite his age, Džeko showed little sign of slowing down in Turkey, finishing as Fenerbahçe’s second top scorer in the Süper Lig last season with 14 goals in 35 appearances.

Fiorentina, now coached by Stefano Pioli, see the experienced striker as a key addition ahead of the new campaign, particularly with European football once again on the agenda.
