The 21-year-old's new deal comes with a significantly increased release clause

It's official — Spanish international winger Nico Williams has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with Athletic Club, keeping him at San Mamés until the summer of 2035.

The 21-year-old's new deal comes with a significantly increased release clause, now reportedly set at over €80 million, according to Spanish media sources. That’s a rise of more than 50% compared to his previous buyout clause.

"When it comes to making big decisions, I follow my heart," Williams said in an emotional statement. "I’m where I want to be, with my people — this is my home. Let’s go, Athletic!”

Williams had been heavily linked with a move to FC Barcelona, but the Catalan giants were ultimately unable to register him due to ongoing Financial Fair Play restrictions. The player reportedly turned down the transfer himself.

Since breaking into the first team five seasons ago, Williams has made 167 official appearances for the Basque side and played a crucial role in helping Athletic Club lift the Copa del Rey.
