Sweden kicked off their UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 campaign with a narrow but deserved 1-0 win over Denmark in front of over 17,000 fans in Geneva.

The only goal of the match came on the 55th minute, when Real Madrid midfielder Filippa Angeldal slotted home after a clever assist from Kosovare Asllani.

Sweden entered the match as favourites, especially following their emphatic 6-1 win over Denmark in their previous meeting. But as often is the case at major tournaments, opening games bring added tension.

“Winning the first game of a tournament is everything — it’s what you dream of,” Angeldal said post-match.

The night was also special for Kosovare Asllani, who marked her 200th international appearance with a decisive contribution in attack.

Sweden’s next match in Group С will be against Poland.
