Stalemate Intensifies as Sporting Hold Their Ground

Arsenal’s pursuit of Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres has hit a major roadblock, with negotiations with Sporting CP currently deadlocked over the structure of the transfer fee.

According to The Independent, the North London club has tabled an offer worth €65 million up front, with a further €15 million in performance-related add-ons. However, Sporting Lisbon are standing firm – they want the full €70 million paid immediately, with no strings attached.

Gyökeres, who had a sensational 2024/25 season with Sporting – scoring an astonishing 54 goals in just 52 appearances – is reportedly growing increasingly frustrated with the impasse. The 27-year-old is doing everything in his power to push through a move to the Premier League, including skipping training sessions and making his desire public through media outlets.

Stalemate Intensifies as Sporting Hold Their Ground

Sporting are refusing to compromise, confident in their striker’s market value and unwilling to part ways on terms they consider unfavourable. Despite pressure from the player, there are currently no signs of a breakthrough.

From Arsenal’s perspective, it’s a frustrating situation. They’ve identified Gyökeres as a top target to reinforce their attack ahead of the new campaign, but the financial standoff leaves the deal in limbo – for now.
