Sporting now insist on full payment if the Gunners want their man

The long-running negotiations between Sporting CP and Arsenal over Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres appear to have reached a dead end — and all signs point to a transfer that’s destined to fall apart.

According to multiple sources close to the situation, discussions have hit a stalemate with no breakthrough in sight. Despite Gyökeres having already agreed personal terms with Arsenal, optimism is fading fast within the player’s camp.

Just weeks ago, there was hope. The forward reportedly had a gentleman’s agreement with Sporting’s management that would allow him to leave this summer without the club demanding the full value of his €100 million release clause. But as the window progressed, that stance changed — and Sporting now insist on full payment if the Gunners want their man.

Arsenal, already navigating a tight financial landscape amid FFP constraints and ongoing recruitment across multiple positions, are unwilling to meet Sporting’s valuation. Unless Lisbon backs down, the Premier League move looks increasingly unlikely.
