The 26-year-old goal machine is expected to undergo his medical on Saturday

One of the summer’s most protracted transfer sagas is finally nearing its conclusion — and Arsenal fans have reason to get excited.

Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres has officially received written permission from Sporting CP to travel to London for a medical ahead of a big-money move to the Premier League giants.

All details between the clubs have now been ironed out, bringing an end to weeks of intense negotiations. The 26-year-old goal machine is expected to undergo his medical on Saturday, at which point the deal will be finalized.

Gyökeres has been one of Europe's standout forwards over the past year, scoring freely for Sporting and drawing attention from top clubs across the continent. But it’s Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal who have won the race — eventually breaking down Sporting’s firm resistance to part with their prized asset.
