Official: PSG Sign Goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier
Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille, with the 23-year-old penning a five-year contract on Friday. The deal is reportedly worth €40 million excluding bonuses, but could rise to €55 million depending on performance clauses.
PSG accelerated negotiations to ensure Chevalier would be eligible for their UEFA Super Cup showdown against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday, August 13. With uncertainty surrounding Gianluigi Donnarumma's contract renewal talks, the club turned their focus to the highly rated Frenchman as a long-term solution between the posts.
Chevalier enjoyed an excellent campaign in Ligue 1 last season, making 34 appearances for Lille and keeping 11 clean sheets. His consistency and maturity have made him one of the most promising young goalkeepers in European football.
The transfer had been delayed as Lille searched for a suitable replacement, but the deal was finally pushed over the line late this week. Should the full package reach €55 million, Chevalier would become the most expensive goalkeeper in French football history, surpassing Sebastien Frey's €21 million move in 2003.
