Despite his veteran status, Vázquez remains a high-level performer

Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the signing of former Real Madrid right-back Lucas Vázquez on a free transfer. The 33-year-old Spaniard has penned a contract with the Bundesliga champions that runs until June 2027, marking a new chapter in his distinguished career.

Vázquez leaves Real Madrid after spending an incredible 18 years at the club, including youth and senior levels. He made his first-team debut in 2010 and went on to win a total of 23 major trophies, including 5 UEFA Champions League titles and 4 La Liga championships.

Remarkably, Bayer Leverkusen becomes only the third club of his professional career — and the first outside Spain. He previously spent one season on loan at Espanyol during the 2014–15 campaign.

Still Delivering at the Highest Level

Despite his veteran status, Vázquez remains a high-level performer. In the 2024–25 season, he made 53 appearances for Real Madrid, scoring 2 goals and providing 8 assists across all competitions.
