Real Madrid reach agreement with Bayern Munich defensive leader

Real Madrid are reportedly closing in on a major defensive signing, having reached a verbal agreement with Dayot Upamecano, according to sources close to the Spanish giants.
The French centre-back has allegedly agreed to join Los Blancos next summer, with talks progressing smoothly behind the scenes. While no official announcement has been made, confidence is growing in Madrid that the deal is only a matter of time.
Upamecano’s current contract with Bayern Munich is set to expire in June, and the 25-year-old is in no rush to commit to a renewal. This situation has opened the door for Real Madrid, who are once again following their well-established strategy of targeting elite players available on a free transfer.
Reports suggest that Real Madrid are prepared to meet all of Upamecano’s personal contract demands, underlining how highly the club rates the France international as a long-term solution in defence.
Upamecano joined Bayern Munich in 2021 from RB Leipzig for a fee of €42.5 million and has since become a key figure at the heart of the Bavarians’ back line.
