Winter transfer window largely comes to a close

The winter transfer window officially shut overnight across most of Europe, with all five major leagues now closing their business for January.
As things stand, the biggest deal of the window remains Antoine Semenyo’s move to Manchester City, completed early in the month when the Premier League champions paid a substantial €72 million to Bournemouth. Overall, however, the winter campaign proved relatively subdued, with spending levels modest across most leagues. Notably, the 10th-largest deal of the window was worth just €28 million.
Some leagues, as usual, will continue operating beyond the main European deadline. In Portugal, transfers remain open until 3 February, while Austria, Greece and Turkey will close their windows on 6 February. Among the notable European leagues, Switzerland will be the last to shut, with its window remaining open until 16 February.
