The decision was taken in the wake of a damaging defeat to arch-rivals Rangers

Celtic have officially confirmed the return of Martin O’Neill, appointing the experienced coach as interim head coach until the end of the current campaign. The 73-year-old steps back into the dugout following the dismissal of Wilfried Nancy, bringing stability and a familiar face at a crucial stage of the season.

The decision was taken in the wake of a damaging defeat to arch-rivals Rangers in the latest Old Firm derby. That loss proved decisive, marking six defeats during Nancy’s brief spell in charge. On Monday, the club’s board moved swiftly, announcing the end of the Frenchman’s tenure.

This is not O’Neill’s first involvement with the club this season. Following the departure of Brendan Rodgers in October, Celtic turned to the veteran coach on a temporary basis. Under his guidance, the Hoops won seven of their next eight matches, a run that steadied the ship before the club opted to hand the reins to Nancy.
