Andrea Kimi Antonelli continues to establish himself as the breakout star of the Formula 1 2026 season after the 19-year-old secured a stunning fourth consecutive victory at the Canadian Grand Prix.
The young Mercedes sensation once again showcased remarkable composure and race pace, extending his lead in the drivers’ championship with another statement performance against some of the sport’s biggest names.
For much of the opening half of the race, Antonelli was locked in an intense battle with teammate George Russell. The two Mercedes drivers traded fastest laps and pushed each other relentlessly during the opening 30 laps before disaster struck for the Briton.
Russell’s race came to an abrupt end after an apparent engine failure, leaving Antonelli in complete control at the front. From that moment onward, the Italian managed the race brilliantly and cruised to yet another victory in what is rapidly becoming a sensational campaign.
Behind him, Lewis Hamilton delivered one of his strongest drives of the season for Ferrari. The seven-time world champion mounted late pressure on Max Verstappen and eventually overtook the Red Bull Racing driver in the closing stages to claim second place and another podium finish.
One of the biggest disappointments of the day came from McLaren. A costly tyre strategy error forced both drivers into early pit stops, completely ruining the team’s race and leaving the papaya squad without a single point from the weekend.
