Atlético Madrid continued their preparations for the new La Liga season with a hard-fought 2-1 victory away to French side Marseille in a pre-season friendly.

The hosts made the brighter start and took the lead in the 22nd minute when Igor Paixão found the net to put Marseille 1-0 ahead. However, Atlético Madrid responded before half-time, with Rodrigo Mendoza restoring parity in the 39th minute.

The Spanish side continued to push for a winner after the break and their persistence eventually paid off. Forward Carlos Martín struck in the 78th minute to complete the comeback and give Atlético Madrid a 2-1 victory.

One notable absentee was Julián Alvarez. The Argentine forward, who has been linked with a move from Atlético Madrid to Barcelona, was not included in the Madrid club's squad for the friendly.
