Athletic wins its first Copa del Rey trophy in 40 years
Athletic Bilbao won the Copa del Rey for the first time since 1984, defeating Mallorca in the final match for the trophy.
Dani Rodriguez put the Islanders ahead with a beautiful strike midway through the first half, which Athletic responded with a goal from Oyhan Sunset just after the break. The 90 minutes of the match ended with the score 1-1, as well as the two extra halfs; as a result, the winner was determined in a penalty shootout, where everything was decided by two saves of the Basque goalkeeper Agirrezabala - 4:2.
This is Athletic's 24th victory in the Spanish Cup - Bilbao club is second only to Barcelona, which has 31 trophies.
