Neymar urges Santos to stage a surprise Brazilian championship

As Neymar nears his highly anticipated return to action with Santos FC, the Brazilian superstar has already weighed in on who he believes are the front-runners for the 2025 Campeonato Brasileiro Série A.

Speaking to Cazé TV, Neymar highlighted three teams he sees as the primary title contenders:

Palmeiras have kept almost the same squad for years, which makes them one of the best teams in the league. Flamengo also have a strong side, and Botafogo had an excellent 2024 season and managed to keep their core group together. These three are a step above Santos right now,” said Neymar.

The 32-year-old also noted that Internacional, Atlético Mineiro, and Corinthians are just below the top tier but capable of challenging: “Those three teams are at about the same level.”

Santos FC are back in the top flight after a historic first-ever relegation in 2023. But Neymar remains optimistic:

“We have a strong squad that’s returning to the traditional attacking style of Santos. The club has made significant investments and brought in a new coach. It will take a little time, but we’re ready to surprise. Let’s make this a truly unpredictable Brazilian championship.”

Santos are set to face Fluminense in Matchday 3, and Neymar is expected to make his season debut, possibly off the bench.
