Barça continues to grapple with salary cap limitations and squad cost restrictions

Barcelona's long-standing registration woes continue, as new signing Marcus Rashford has yet to be registered with La Liga, just hours before their season opener against Mallorca.

In a situation that's become all too familiar for the Catalan giants, the club faces administrative hurdles once again. Despite an exciting summer transfer window, only one of their new additions—so far—has been successfully registered.

As per the official La Liga website, Spanish goalkeeper Joan García is the sole new signing eligible to play. The 24-year-old shot-stopper, who joined from Espanyol, is now officially listed as a Barcelona player and available for selection in Spain’s top flight.

Ironically, acquiring García was perhaps the easiest part of the process. The real challenge has been navigating La Liga's stringent registration protocols, which have delayed the club's ability to finalize paperwork—especially for marquee names like Rashford.

Interestingly, despite club president Joan Laporta earlier assuring fans that both Rashford and García would be ready for the season opener, only the goalkeeper has been officially cleared. As of now, Marcus Rashford remains unregistered on the league's platform.

Barcelona's registration issues are far from new. This marks the second consecutive season where the club has struggled to comply with La Liga’s strict 1:1 financial rule—a regulation designed to ensure clubs maintain financial sustainability. Despite being one of Europe’s most iconic football brands, Barça continues to grapple with salary cap limitations and squad cost restrictions.
