The decision was made in the wake of the club’s 1–0 defeat to Benfica

Fenerbahçe have officially confirmed the departure of head coach José Mourinho, just months after the Portuguese manager took over at the start of the 2024/25 season.

The decision was made in the wake of the club’s 1–0 defeat to Benfica in the UEFA Champions League qualifying round — a result that dashed Fenerbahçe's hopes of returning to Europe’s top-tier competition.

“We have parted ways with José Mourinho, who has been our head coach since the beginning of the 2024/25 season. We thank him for his contributions and wish him success in the next chapter of his career,” read the club’s official statement.

The End of a Short-Lived Chapter

Mourinho’s stint in Istanbul was one of the most high-profile appointments in Turkish football in recent years, generating global buzz when he took charge of Fenerbahçe. However, the partnership ends prematurely, with no silverware and early European elimination casting a shadow over the short reign.

Mourinho's Legacy

José Mourinho remains one of the most decorated managers in modern football history. His resume includes spells at Chelsea, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Inter Milan, and Porto, where he famously lifted the UEFA Champions League in 2003/04 and 2009/10. In total, he has amassed 26 major trophies over a glittering career.
