Barcelona Suffer Major Blow as Gavi Ruled Out for Up to Five Months
Barcelona have confirmed a devastating injury setback for midfield star Gavi, who is expected to be sidelined for up to five months following surgery on his right knee.
The 20-year-old Spanish international underwent arthroscopic surgery on a damaged meniscus, with the procedure revealing more extensive issues than initially feared. Club doctor Joan Carles Monllau was forced to perform a more complex operation, delaying the player’s return until at least February 2026.
This is a huge setback not only for Gavi personally but also for Barcelona, who now face a crucial stretch of the season without one of their most dynamic and influential players. The midfielder’s availability for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup is also in serious doubt.
According to Spanish media reports, head coach Hansi Flick was "deeply frustrated" by the news, having viewed Gavi as a central figure in his tactical setup. The young midfielder had only recently returned to full fitness after a previous long-term injury to his cruciate ligament two years ago.
