The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has upheld an appeal filed by Chelsea and Mykhailo Mudryk, officially overturning the player's four-year doping ban. The Ukrainian winger has been granted full authorization to resume his professional football career with immediate effect.

The tribunal ruled that the period Mudryk has already spent away from football since November 2024 constitutes a proportionate and sufficient sanction. The legal breakthrough enables the winger to link up with his club immediately for their pre-season tour.

The original sanction imposed by the Football Association stemmed from a positive test for the banned substance meldonium. The contentious sample was collected out of competition in October 2024 while Mudryk was away on international duty with Ukraine.

A decisive factor in the arbitrators' ruling was a recent update to technical reporting standards by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). The court found that the concentration of meldonium in Mudryk's sample was exceptionally low and noted that, under WADA's updated technical standards, such a trace level is no longer considered an anti-doping rule violation.
